Year 7/8 Trip

This week we had the year 7/8 trip, we did ice skating and curling. Every year we have the year 7/8 ski camp, but this year we had to change it because the snow was terrible. Instead we went to the Dunedin ice skating and curling place. I was a bit worried about doing this because I hadn’t been ice skating for so many years and I had NEVER been curling. I really enjoyed the curling and I found it super fun because it was a new experience. I also enjoyed the ice skating but not as much as the curling, this was because I couldn’t skate very well and I was pretty scared that I would fall over. Under neath is a photo of the ice skating and curling.

Tech Week Review

Last week I had tech, I was in art. We started the week with finger painting, I painted a landscape that my teacher printed of the internet. It was a lot more detailed than I expected, but it turned out really good. Then we learnt how to do a 10 minute landscape, using chalk pastels. On the 2nd last day we did a Romero Britto styled piece of art work, I did my grandparents house. We had to use lots of bright colors and patterns and we weren’t allowed to have any white. In my free time I was allowed to do some line drawing. You do this my tracing or drawing an object make sure you do it in pencil though. Then you want to get a ruler and a vivid and start drawing lines down the page in one direction. Then do the same on the object but going the opposite way. This is a really  fun task for when your bored and I would recommend trying it. Overall I had a super fun week and can’t wait to go back!

Reflection on learning conferences

A learning conference is where your parents and you go to meet your teacher to find out how well you are going with your learning. I like learning conferences because they let me know what I can do next with my learning and what I need to keep up with. I feel like my learning conference went really well because I am at where I’m supposed to be and I know where I can improve. I feel like my learning is going really well and I am super happy with my reading level. One of the things I would like to keep practicing is my times tables so I can hit 100 in my hundreds club and just keep improving in my general maths. In the end me and my parents were both very happy with the outcome. I really like learning conferences because I get to find out where I’m at with my learning.

My Weekend.

This weekend I got to watch a cesarean on a cow. We were checking our cows to see if the had calved, because here in New Zealand it is the time were cows calf. We ended up having to call a vet to come help do a c-section. A c-section is where you have to cut open the cow and pull the calf out, (the cow cant feel it.)

After that was done we had to go and visit another cow that couldn’t stand up. Turns out the reason she couldn’t stand was because, she had 150 Litres of fluid and one massive calf inside her. After this we ended up getting home at 11:00pm. The next day we had to get all the fluid out and the do another c-section, but on this cow. Now both cows are slowly recovering and getting back to normal health.

Canada

Canada

Canada is the largest country in the Western hemisphere. The Prime Minister of  Canada is  Justin Trudeau, he is Canada’s 23rd Prime Minister.

The reason I would like to visit Canada is because a cow called Missy, sold for 1.2 million dollars is mother of a cow I used to own. The calf I own at the moment is the gran-daughter of that cow.

Did you know that Canada speaks french? Well, they have 2 official languages, English and french. You will hear a lot of different languages from tourists, but they only have 2 official  languages.

A place I would like to visit in Canada is Canada’s Wonderland, which is a huge amusement park  that opened in 1981. It has water rides and roller coasters, so pack your togs.

Term 2 Reflection!

During term 2 we had lock down learning and also a lot of fun activities that we did at normal school.

What have I enjoyed? One of my favorite activities this term was tech, we do a lot of fun activities at OIS.

Have I made improvements in certain subjects, how do I know? I think I have really improved in my math and learning fraction and percentages much better, I have realized this because I know  last term I wouldn’t have been able to do this.

What am I most proud of? This term we have been learning how to do an ODE we did one to summer which I was really proud of.

What could I get better at? One of the things I think I could have gotten better at is the NZCM math book we do.

I really enjoyed term 2 because we got to do part lock down learning and part normal school, have you enjoyed term 2 as well?

Fun things in Winter!!

Winter for me means possum trapping! I do possum trapping in winter when possums have better fur. Last year I got $50 worth of possum fur. But a one of the bad things are that it means you have to go out in the cold, frosty morning to check them. I really enjoy possum trapping and I hope i have a good outcome this year.

Things I learnt about Water/Water Cycle

A few things I learnt about water and the water cycle is:

-That the water we drink today has been around for 3.8 billion years old.                -A cloud is formed by lots of minuscule droplets of water, also known as vapor.    -There are 3 types of water forms, liquid, solid and gas.                                                -68.7% of earths water is trapped in glaciers.                                                                    -Nearly 97% of the worlds water is salty or undrinkable.                                              -A lot of the worlds water is from the ocean.                                                                    – -Clouds are formed from so many little water particles that when they are together they form a big white cloud.

Those are just a couple of them I learnt and down the bottom is a photo of the water cycle.

My first weekend out of lock-down!

This weekend I was able to go down to Dunedin! It was the opening weekend of duck shooting 2020 a lot later than it would have been, we shot 97 ducks in the 2 days. I got to celebrate my sister Sophia’s birthday with my extended family down in Dunedin. I did enjoy lock-down but going to Dunedin was super fun after not being able to see my extended family for a long time. In the end, visiting my family in Dunedin and going duck shooting was super fun and I cant wait to do it again.
